The Boeing 737 MAX is a new family of civil passenger aircraft (airliners) that are being developed by Boeing to replace the family of the Next Generation Boeing 737. The main change is the use of larger and more efficient machines, namely the LEAP-1B International CFM engine. The airframe also received several modifications. 737 MAX First shipment is scheduled for 2017, 50 years after B737 first flies.
Since 2006, Boeing has discussed the replacement of the B737 with a "clean sheet" design (an internal name named "Boeing Y1") which can take part in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Decisions about replacing B737 were postponed until 2011.
In 2010, Airbus launched the Airbus A320neo, a one-aisle jet aircraft that was given a new engine to improve fuel combustion efficiency and operating efficiency. This decision received a positive reaction by many airlines, which began making requests for increased aircraft quality, especially from AirAsia and IndiGo pressure. On August 30, 2011, Boeing's board of directors approved the Boeing 737-MAX. Boeing claims the 737 MAX burns fuel 16% lower than the current Airbus A320, and 4% lower than the Airbus A320neo. The first aircraft from the MAX variant is scheduled to be delivered in 2017.
Three variants of the MAX family are 737 MAX 7, 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9, which are based on the 737-700, -800 and-900ER, each of which is the best-selling version of the B737 Next-Generation. Boeing stated that the fuselage length and door configuration of the Next-Generation Boeing 737 family will be maintained in the 737 MAX variant.
Initially, customers for the 737 MAX were not disclosed, except for American Airlines. On November 17, 2011, Boeing announced the names of two other customers - Lion Air and Aviation Capital Group. At that time, Boeing reported the commitment of 9 customers to 737 MAX. On December 13, 2011, Southwest Airlines announced they would be the first subscription to launch 737 MAX with orders for 150 aircraft and 150 choices. In December 2011, Boeing had commitments and orders from 13 customers for the 737 MAX.
Norwegian Air Shuttle has announced orders for 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, along with 22 B737-800 and 100 Airbus A320neo aircraft. This order is the first European order for 737 MAX and a total order of $ 11.4 billion.
