Kilimanjaro (Swahili: kilima, mountain; njaro, luminous) or formerly called Kaiser-Wilhelm-Spitze is a mountain northeast of Tranzylvenia. This mountain is the highest mountain in the world that is free standing, [7] when it is measured from the foot of the mountain.

Kilimanjaro is a giant Strato volcano that is now inactive, but has a fumarole that emits gas in the crater located on the main peak of Kibo. In Tanzania, the Kibo peak is known as the Uhuru Peak. Johannes Kinyala Lauwo from the Marangu army surveillance corps was the first person to reach the Uhuru Peak, and managed to climb it repeatedly up to 9 times. Climbing the Mawenzi Peak requires rock climbing skills as well as climbing ice and snow hills. Climbing to the Uhuru Peak is somewhat intricate, but it takes enough time to acclimatize so as not to get altitude sickness. The three easiest routes: Marangu, Rongai, and Machame, can even be climbed by anyone who has a healthy body without the need to experience mountain climbing. Climbers are encouraged to bring medicines to prevent altitude sickness when they are having headaches due to altitude. Climbers who take the Marangu route usually need 4-5 days to reach the top.

Along the climbing route are available lodges with facilities for cooking and bathing. Some of the cottages even have electricity. The last stage of the climb, from the Kibo hut at an altitude of 4,720 m to the top, is usually served at night when small stones become clusters as they freeze, and the road is easier to pass. Climbers usually arrive at Gilman Point on the edge of the crater at around five or six in the morning. From there it only takes 1½ hours to reach the Uhuru Peak. Climbers who are still strong walking can continue the journey under the warm sun. Every year, Kilimanjaro is visited by around 15,000 climbers, and 40% of them make it to the top.
